JACKSON, Miss. — On Thursday, April 8 at 3 p.m., the Mississippi Main Street Association (MMSA) will designate the City of Pearl, Miss. as an official Mississippi Main Street community.

"The city of Pearl is very proud to be a new member of the Mississippi Main Street Association," said Jake Windham, Mayor of the City of Pearl. "I believe this organization will help provide great opportunities for our city and at the same time help build civic pride aesthetically throughout the community."

The designation ceremony is planned to be held outside of the Pearl City Hall. In case of inclement weather, the designation will be held in the Community Room adjacent to City Hall.

“The City of Pearl’s commitment to its people, history, and growth is evident by their decision to join the Mississippi Main Street Association," said Steven Dick, MMSA Board President. "The MMSA team looks forward to working with Pearl Main Street to develop a plan for future growth, preservation, and economic vitality."

Speakers at the designation will include Jake Windham, Mayor of Pearl; Steven Dick, MMSA Board President and Economic Development Manager for Mississippi Power; Chance McDavid, Director of Asset Development Division, Mississippi Development Authority; Dean Kirby, Mississippi State Senate, District 30; and Thomas Gregory, MMSA State Coordinator.

Ruth Gullette will direct the Pearl Main Street program.

"As the director for Main Street Pearl, I am most excited about the historic preservation aspect of our future transformation," said Ruth Gullette, Director of Main Street Pearl. "I know the experts from Mississippi Main Street Association will be able to guide us in a way that will help revitalize an area that was once considered the 'Heart of Pearl,' while stimulating our economy and preserving our history."
