4th Annual Krewe De Roux Festival Block Party/Gumbo/Car Show set

BRANDON – The Rankin County Leadership Class and friends have been working hard planning the 2023 KREWE DE ROUX Mardi Gras in downtown Brandon.
The Rankin County Chamber of Commerce and the City of Brandon are gearing up for the fourth annual Krewe De Roux, a weekend full of Mardi Gras fun with a parade and block party on Friday, Feb. 17. The parade kicks off at 6:30pm. The historic downtown block party is from 6:30 – 10pm. There is no fee for the block party. To close out the day’s festivities, the Molly Ringwald’s will be in concert immediately after the parade.
Businesses and members of the community are encouraged to enter floats and decorated cars in the parade. Entry fee for floats is $100 and $50 for cars. For political candidates or pageant title-holders is $50, must be in vehicles. There is no fee for schools, but they must register. Staging for the parade will be in the Brandon Middle School parking lot. Registration forms and parade rules are available online at firstname.lastname@example.org. Parade Registration deadline is Feb. 6.
The festivities continue on Saturday, February 18, from 11am – 3pm with the Krewe De Roux Gumbo Cook-off at the Brandon Amphitheater. Come out on Saturday and enjoy a Gumbo Cook-Off with teams cooking fresh gumbo and live entertainment throughout the day. This event benefits the Rankin Chamber Youth Leadership Program each year.
The entry fee for the Gumbo Cook-off is $100. Space is limited to the first 50 entries, including sponsorship teams. There is a limit of four persons per team. Registration deadline is February 6.
Prizes for the Gumbo Cook-off are $1,500 for first place, $1,000 for second place, and $500 for third. The most creative cooking booth receives $250 and the fan favorite will receive $250. Cook-off rules are available online at www.rankinchamber.com.
The City of Brandon is joining in the excitement with the Krewe De Roux Car Show on Saturday, February 18, from 11am-3pm at the Brandon Amphitheater. The entry fee is $30 per vehicle and $35 on the day of the show.
Proceeds from the car show benefit the City of Brandon’s Mayor’s Youth Council. Entry to the car show comes with 2 Festival wristbands. Categories for prizes include: Swamp Rat Award (RAT Rod), King Award (Best Truck), Let the Good Time Roll (Car Classic 1955-1978), Fleur-de-lis Award (Car Classic 1979-current), Hurricane Award (Misc.), and Grand Marshall Award (Best Show). Awards will be announced at 1pm. on the main stage.
